Basics on How to Address a PO Box

There are a few different situations where you might be sending mail or any other kind of items to an address that is not a traditional street address, and one of the most common and well-known examples here is the use of a PO Box. If you're sending any kind of items to a PO Box, how will the way you address the package differ from traditional street addresses you're likely more familiar with?

One good example here is sending Certified Mail to a PO Box, which can be easily enough done - but may require a couple basic steps to carry out successfully.

What is Certified Mail?

Instead of needing to wait for the signed Green Card to return, you will receive an electronic Return Receipt via email. This will include a unique tracking number that helps confirm delivery and provides additional proof.
5. Monitor your mail: Once your item has been delivered successfully, you can track it using the USPS website or by signing up for Informed Delivery service - allowing you to better monitor its progress.

Additionally, certain containers may also be prohibited depending on the exact nature of your liquid shipment – and failing to meet these requirements could lead to legal sanctions. Be sure to take a look at both local and federal regulations to ensure you stay within the boundaries of the law.

Proper Sealing

Before you insert any liquid into a shipping container, it's also important to make sure you have the right sealing materials on hand. This will help ensure that your liquid won't escape its odor-proof, waterproof and airtight packaging – no matter how many times it may be handled during transit.

You have a few good options here, such as heat-shrink wrapping or tamperproof seals. With heat shrink, a special plastic wrap is placed around the top of the container and then shrunken down with a torch or heat gun to create a secure seal that won't break even when handled multiple times. For tamperproof applications, you'll use a special tape or label with a unique design, such as a void pattern or even a hologram – and any attempts to open the container will be visible.

Waterproof Bag

In addition to basic sealing, we typically recommend the use of a waterproof bag as well. This will provide an extra layer of protection against any potential spills or accidents while in transit, and it's especially important if you're shipping liquids with higher viscosities (such as oils, honey or syrup).

For this, you should look for either heavy-duty plastic bags or even special bubble pouches – and depending on the exact liquid in question, you may even want to double up or use a special waterproof lining for extra protection.

Because of our status as a ‘Pack and Ship’ spot, you may not think we get many people asking about spring cleaning supplies. But we do. Not the kind you would think, like spray bottles and dust catchers. Our spring cleaning supplies are usually more attuned to specific home projects like papers and storage. Here are a four spring cleaning areas you can attack in your home or business office.

 

1. Shredding Old Documents

 

Most of our society has gone paperless, but it’s almost impossible to go completely without. Those papers tend to pile up and while you can just recycle most of them, there are those documents with sensitive information that can’t be tossed. Document shredding is the way to go when it comes to disposing those documents. As you acquire them, designate a box to put them all until it’s full. Once full, drop off at a document shredding center (like The Packaging Store) so they can be properly shredded and recycled.

 

2. Boxing Documents for Storage

 

While we’re on the subject of papers, there are some that can’t be thrown away. These documents must be stored but they don’t always need to be in a file cabinet. Organize papers and those in large grouping can be boxed for storage. Pack them in small boxes to prevent them from being too heavy to lift.

Easter Gift Giving 101: Everything you need to know about send easter gifts in the mail

 

As a local shipping retailer in Salt Lake City, we have shipped easter gifts for over 25 years and know just about everything there is to know about it. We get questions every holiday on what to ship and how to do it, so here’s our guide on shipping for Easter.

 

Who to ship an easter gift to:

 

If you’re unsure about who to send a gift to, we can help you there. The majority of our customers send their easter gifts in the mail to grandchildren, college students, far away friends, and their family (or ward) missionaries.

 

What to send in the mail for an Easter gift:

 

Candy and home baked goodies are in almost every Easter package we send. Many packages also include toys, stuffed animals, and books. Don’t forget to add a card or letter to the package! We have Easter greeting cards that are holiday or religious themed. Pick one, write a note, and add it to the package.

 

Where to send it:

 

We ship with four different couriers (USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL), so we can ship to pretty much everywhere in the world. If you’re not sure which courier to use, talk to Roly or Julie. They are shipping experts and know which courier to use to ship your items.

 

When to send it:

 

It depends on where you’re final shipping destination lies. If it’s international, ship it now! International shipping takes 1-2 weeks depending on where in the world it’s going. Domestic shipments take 5-7 days. If you have a missionary at the MTC, we do same day delivery if you drop off before 11:00 A.M. or it will arrive the next day. Save money on shipping by sending your gift early.

 

How to send it:

 

Bring everything you want to ship to the Packaging Store and we will pack it for you. If you want to pack it yourself, we have all the supplies for you including different box sizes, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, and packing paper. LTL is another shipping type, just like Priority Mail. This also leads to LTL being considered as ‘light freight shipping’.

It’s spring and easter is less than a week away. One of the most common things shipped for Easter is food. From cookies to baskets of candy, we have shipped food of all varieties. If you are planning on shipping food this Easter, check out our list of the things to do and most importantly, not to do.

 

DO: Seal ALL Food Properly

 

You really can ship any type of food, there’s no doubt about that. But, you will want to take the precaution of sealing your food before shipping it. Not only will it keep it fresh, it will stay in its box where it can’t break into pieces or come out entirely. Trust us, the mail carrier will not like a leaky box. TIP: Put food in a tupperware that seals before it goes in the shipping box.

 

DON’T: Use ground shipping for perishable items

 

Anything perishable (think chocolate covered strawberries) should always be sent overnight or through 2-day shipping. The extra price of shipping is loads better than the gift of spoiled food. TIP: Use a shipping cooler (we have them!) to keep your items EXTRA cold.

 

DO: Use the right box size

 

If you ship a plate of cookies in a large box, those cookies are going to bounce around inside. Even with packaging like peanuts or bubble wrap, you are risking damage by not using the right type of box. Keep your food safe by shipping with the right size. Usually it will save you some money too! TIP: Bring your food item in and our packaging pros will pick the perfect size box for you.

 

DON’T forget the seasonal favorites

Kick off your decluttering spree or spring move by following these 5 tips to packing success and efficiency.

 

1. When in doubt, make a list.

 

Staying on task is key to getting your things packed up and, let’s be honest, keeping your sanity. By creating a detailed checklist, no time will be wasted because you will always know what’s next. Pro tip: Break your day into 15-30 minute time frames and assign tasks to complete in each frame. It will keep you from spending too much time on one project and ensure you’ve scheduled enough time for your to-dos.

 

2. Stock up on supplies.

    

We may be a bit biased, but we are The Packaging Store. By stocking up on tape, boxes, packing paper, and bubble wrap, you can ensure your items will be safe through your storage period or during a rough move. Pro Tip: Buy in bulk. You always need more than you think, plus you save money by buying supplies in bulk.

 

3. Store clean items only

    

Before packing anything up, always clean each item going into a box. That way, you know that everything is clean when you’re unpacking. When doing long term or seasonal storage, use moth balls or lavender sachets before you box up clothes. This keeps clothing moths from damaging fabrics and helps take away the stale smell of storage. Pro Tip: Use vacuum sealed zipper bags for clothes to keep them extra fresh and protected.

 

4. Different box sizes=Safer valuables

 

What happens when you put a small item in a large box? It moves and moves and moves. By only purchasing one box size, you’re going to run into a big issue: non-efficient space usage. Too much space and you’re things will jumble around, risking damage. Or, you might overpack the box and it breaks through the bottom or is difficult to lift. Buy different sizes to allocate your goods evenly by weight and size. Pro Tip: Divide heavy items like books into many small boxes and lightweight items in larger boxes. Use packing peanuts or paper to eliminate any movement.

 

5. Label Ev-er-y-thing

 

Sorting and organizing your items into tidy boxes is great, until you don’t know what’s in which box. Label your boxes by writing on index cards with a sharpie and placing them in a clear label holder that sticks directly to the box. You can change the cards out when you reuse the box (think summer/winter clothing storage). Pro Tip: Use a printer to print out labels for a clean and organized look with your boxes.

Letters and packages are sent every day from every city in the world. Although technology has cut down on the need to send letters, we haven't yet found a way to digitally send packages. Plus, some things must be sent through snail-mail like Passports. Mail is unavoidable, but what if you don't have a set address? You rent a mailbox.

Document Shredding

 

We offer Document Shredding here at The Packaging Store to make it easier for you to dispose of sensitive documents. You may be cleaning out your office and have boxes full. Or, if you're like us, you keep them in a small pile and bring them to the Packaging Store whenever you come in to ship something. It's really important to take care of these documents and not throw them away.

One of the easiest ways that people steal information is from paper that is carelessly thrown away. Identity theft is a really big problem here in the United States and it's one of them most difficult things to get away from. If someone steals your car, you can call the police and mark it stolen. Then you can just go to the dealership and get a new car. You can't do that with your identity. Protect yourself so you don't have to go through the headache of getting your identity back.

Some documents to always shred:

• Any documents with personal information- your name, address, phone number, social security number, or bank account
• Expired Credit Cards, Passports, Drivers Licenses
• Bank Statements
• Expired Tax Documents
